Dutch Big Brother rides with you and your Tom Tom

If you own a Tom Tom, you not only are paying top dollar, you are also being sold. I always remember the saying that goes something like: "If you are not paying for the software, the product being sold is you." Now we see that Tom Tom is getting a cut from you, and the people it sells your data to, who then get a third cut from you when they ticket you!  Excellent cunning!

Of course, this is only a problem to Dutch motorists, so don't worry about it. It can't happen here.

I like that Tom Tom, the GPS choice for those who don't buy the American choice, Garmin, is the culprit. Along with those paragons of good, the Dutch police. It's almost as if Stan Laurel were setting you up while Oliver Hardy pushed a pie in your face!  Such a gag!

Daring Fireball

Consumer Reports:

Following reports that TomTom had sold traffic data collected from GPS device users to police who then used it to determine locations for speed traps, the company has issued a statement and video in an effort to appease angry customers.

Shameful.
