TweetDeck for iPhone updated

With the Twitter buy-out of TweetDeck done, I am wondering about the future for one of my favorite twitter clients. This update comes so soon after the deal that it was certainly teed up and ready to go, regardless of the Twitter negotiations.

I use TweetDeck off and on with Echofon, and I hope Twitter keeps developing it as a premium twitter client to go with their Tweetie. Of course I still need mute and better Instapaper integration to make it my only one.

By the way, congrats to the blokes behind TweetDeck. I have given them my fair share of criticism, but they have launched better and better apps for many platforms, and managed to hit the jackpot with the Twitter buy. Good one for a small shop not in favor with the hip young Apple writers association.

TweetDeck, whose fate is currently up in the air, just received an update. Specifically, version 2.0.1 for the iPhone adds the following features:

  • Support for image uploading via Twitpic and Mobypicture.
  • Added the ability to create a column with your own tweets and edit the title of custom-made columns.
  • Various bug fixes

TweetDeck 2.0.1 is a universal app and is now available via the App Store. TweetDeck 2, the major overhaul of the app, was released in late April.

Twitter has apparently purchased TweetDeck for a tidy sum estimated to be between 40 and 50 million dollars. The app has a loyal following across platforms. We'll have to wait and see what the future holds for the popular app.
