Respect the design work, and other...

An important essay on the cost of low priced design work by PJ McCormick.  It is good reading for anyone who does independent or small consulting work, and for anyone who buys such work.  Read it, talk about it.

Whether you are a photographer, writer, designer, or any other kind of consultant, be careful how you think about your time.  We see our field devaluing as the some consultants' desire to get a gig overcomes their analysis of how much time it will take.  All too often, the work is shortened to meet the agreed price.  The outcome is a client with a degraded regard for the work, and a new price point.  Kinda like BOGO pizza.  When a desperate chain did it, the market leader did too, and soon you couldn't get anyone to pay full price again.
