Blog reading during these holidays can be a hollow experience. I look for content that engages. What I find instead is the kind of miasma overeating, parties and travel can cause. Surveys, requests for posts, Top- Ten stories, editorial legerdemain that rehashes past work.

I use that to my advantage by "auditioning" blogs for subscription. When you get a digest of the previous year's best, it gives you a good taste of the blogs aspiration and style. Perfect.
